Amazon uses mules to deliver some packages: when animals are more convenient than cars

Amazon has said that not all of its delivery workers in Arizona are bipedal. How the mules ended up on the team and what functions they perform, the publication told USA Today.

Some workers ride mules to deliver packages to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, the company said.

It turns out that the donkey-horse hybrid has been making trips in and out of the canyon for a long time, as well as delivering supplies to those at Phantom Ranch, a historic oasis at the bottom of the canyon.

In addition, mules serve as postmen and delivery partners. They deliver fresh groceries, beer, toilet paper and more to Amazon employees. and guests. Company deliveries are only offered to Phantom Ranch employees who live and work at the bottom of the canyon.

“We bring in just about anything Phantom Ranch might need, as well as whatever packages they want,” Annie Zenin, who packs mules, said in her post.

Carly Lupien, who manages the mule delivery process at Phantom Ranch, said the team starts outfitting the animals at 02:45 am. Thanks to this, delivery can be carried out before the onset of extreme heat. The packer's duties include weighing inventory, feeding and cleaning the animals, and lowering them with supplies. The mules leave at dawn with two packers, each leading a file of five loaded animals.

“What attracts me to my work is that I help people who live at the bottom of the canyon,” Lupien said. “We drag everything there, and every time we appear there, they rejoice: “Do you have our packages? Are we going to get something from Amazon right here?”
