Alla Pugacheva asked the Russian authorities to recognize her as a foreign agent: she does not want Galkin to be alone on this list

The legendary Russian singer Alla Pugacheva appealed to the Russian Ministry of Justice with a request to enroll her “in the ranks of foreign agents of her beloved country” as a sign of solidarity with her husband, comedian Maxim Galkin, reports “Voice of America«.

She published her statement in Instagram.

“I ask you to enroll me in the ranks of foreign agents of my beloved country, because I am in solidarity with my husband, an honest, decent and sincere person, a true and incorruptible patriot of Russia, who wishes the Motherland prosperity, peaceful life, freedom of speech and an end to the death of our guys for illusory goals that make our country is an outcast and burdens the lives of our citizens,” said Alla Pugacheva.

The Russian media that quoted the letter, for the most part, did not dare to give the full text of the appeal.

Maxim Galkin himself previously called the Russian Ministry of Justice’s decision to recognize him as a “foreign agent” – allegedly for political activities – “unfounded.”

“I don’t trade in conscience,” Galkin wrote on his Instagram.

“Foreign agent” (foreign agent) is a status assigned in Russia to persons who receive foreign support or are under “foreign influence”. It is noteworthy that the status of a foreign agent is not assigned to foreign spies or intelligence officers. At risk are non-profit organizations and various movements, mainly political and legal, the media, journalists, bloggers, ordinary citizens and even artists.

The register of individuals-“foreign agents”, where Galkin became the 23rd in a row, has already included well-known cultural figures: musicians Andrei Makarevich and Boris Grebenshchikov, writer Boris Akunin, film director Vitaly Mansky and others.

Maxim Galkin is “clearly out of the way” with the Kremlin, as Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, said when announcing the inclusion of the artist on the list of foreign agents.

From the very beginning of the war in Ukraine, the artist condemned the Russian invasion of the neighboring state.

“You are praying for peace on Easter and at the same time sending cruise missiles to residential buildings,” he said, addressing the Russian leadership after the shelling of Odessa. Galkin also transferred funds collected at his concerts to help Ukrainian refugees.

“Russia is harming itself”

“Thus, they show their “ruthlessness,” says Alexander Ryklin, editor-in-chief of Ezhednevny Zhurnal. “Obviously, they are unaware that by including world-famous people in the list of foreign agents, they are bringing discord into the minds of even the obedient masses. After all, foreign agents, in theory, should not be popular at all, and there certainly should not be too many of them, because they are “outcasts”, “enemies of the people”. However, in Russia for a long time no one seriously considers this punishment as corresponding to its original meaning, which, when writing the document, zealous legislators tried to put into it.”

“Maxim Galkin allowed himself a lot, performing at his concerts abroad and especially not restraining himself, so they decided to punish him demonstrably in order to nip the contagious example in the bud,” states Ryklin. - Of course, this will not cause popular indignation. I believe they will never touch Pugachev under any circumstances. Although, I think that Alla Borisovna will not remain silent in any case, and she certainly does not mince words.”

With the titles of foreign agents, the Russian authorities themselves draw attention to those celebrities who publicly declare their disagreement with the Kremlin's policy, sums up the editor-in-chief of Ezhednevny Zhurnal.

Pugacheva does not like to be silent

Pugacheva and Galkin have long supported Ukraine, the family left for Israel after the outbreak of the war and, it seems, has no plans to return. Recently Pugacheva came to Russia for funeral of Mikhail Gorbachev, but does not plan to live in the Russian Federation.

The prima donna is not silent about the situation in Ukraine. Recently, from her social networks, Alla Borisovna also turned to the famous director Nikita Mikhalkov, who said that the country "does not need her."
