Trump Requires All Migrants to Register and Submit Biometrics
US President Donald Trump signed the executive order "Protecting the American People Against Invasion", which tightens control over migrants in the US. Now all foreigners staying in the country for more than 30 days are required to register and undergo fingerprinting, according to the website of the Immigration Service (USCIS).

This rule existed before, but it was not particularly enforced. In addition, not all migrants could fulfill this requirement due to the unclear registration mechanism. Now the authorities are introducing a new procedure that will eliminate this problem. Unregistered migrants will no longer be able to refer to the fact that they did not know the rules or could not register.
Who does this concern?
- All aliens 14 years of age and older who did not register when obtaining a visa and who remain in the United States for more than 30 days must apply for registration within those 30 days.
- Parents or guardians are required to register their children under age 14 if they are staying in the United States for more than 30 days.
- A child who has already been registered but has reached the age of 14 must apply for re-registration and fingerprinting within 30 days of his or her birthday.

What happens after registration
After the registration procedure and fingerprinting (unless this is waived for a specific person), the migrant is issued a confirmation document. All foreigners over 18 years of age must carry this document with them at all times.

Violation of these rules is subject to administrative and criminal penalties, including fines and prosecution.
Who does this not concern?
- Native Indians of Canada who crossed the border under special regulations.
- Members of the Kickapoo Tribe who are eligible to enter the United States without registration.
Who is considered registered?
If a person has a green card, work permit (EAD) or other official immigration documents confirming their registration, they are not required to re-register. This applies to:
- Permanent residents (green card holders).
- People who have been issued a temporary residence permit in the country (even if its term has already expired).
- Those who received a visa before entering the United States.
- Persons who have been issued documents to work in the United States.
- Persons who have applied for a green card (even if they were denied).

How will the registration take place?
A new online registration system has been launched since February 25, 2025. Anyone who is required to register is advised to create an account in advance. account on the USCIS website. Parents will be able to register children through their account.
