The gunsmith of the film 'Rust' was found guilty of the murder of Ukrainian Galina Hutchins

On March 6, the gunsmith of the film “Rust,” on the set of which Alec Baldwin shot and killed the cameraman, Ukrainian Galina Hutchins, was found guilty of manslaughter by the jury, reports FoxNews.

Prosecution and defense

The prosecution focused primarily on Gutierrez-Reed's conduct as a gunsmith. It argued that the accused did not do her job properly.

The prosecution put forward evidence in court that the prop manager took a box of her own live ammunition with her from her home to filming in New Mexico, and these cartridges were accidentally mixed with blanks.

As a result, as prosecutors said and the court agreed, a live cartridge due to the negligence and irresponsibility of Gutierrez-Reed and tragic coincidence turned out to be loaded with a prop revolver, which Alec Baldwin used in the shot. According to Gutierrez-Reed's lawyer, the prosecution could not prove that his ward was solely responsible for Hutchins' death, and that she was made a scapegoat, reports Фокус.

Among the witnesses who spoke in court was director Joel Souza. The jury heard his testimony.

He recalled that immediately after the fatal shot, Gutierrez-Reed said several times: “I'm sorry, Joel!”

Hutchins and Souza worked behind the camera to capture close-ups of the scene. At this time, the gun Baldwin was holding fired.

Gutierrez-Reed's legal team told jurors that the prosecution did not present enough evidence to convict their client of manslaughter.
