Water park in San Francisco closed due to aggressive sea lions

Part of the San Francisco Bay, where the water park is located, was closed to bathing people, after the sea lions living there twice attacked people in recent days.

According to Air force, last Friday, a man was bitten by an aggressive animal in the groin area, and the other day the other man had received a serious arm injury.

It is possible that both of these attacks were committed by the same sea lion.

An official message appeared on Twitter in the water park that the attraction will be closed until Monday.

Specialists from the local Marine Mammal Center say that such attacks on humans by animals are rare, however, over the past 3 of the year, 10 of similar cases have been reported.

The last time a sea lion attacked a bather in the San Francisco Bay was marked early last Friday morning.

“The animal bit him in the genital area,” he said in an interview with the newspaper. San Francisco Chronicle 79-year-old Bob Roper, who is in the same club of swimmers as the victim.

The cause of the attacks is unclear.

Another man, 56-year-old Christian Einfeld, was bitten on the arm while swimming during the day last Thursday.

As Einfeld told KTVU, when he saw the sea lion approaching, he shouted “no!” to it, but the animal did not react to the cry.

“His muzzle slid over my hand. Fortunately, he grabbed my hand with only one tooth,” the victim added.

Zoologists say that the behavior of sea lions can be unpredictable and changeable. The reason for the recent attacks of sea lions on people in the San Francisco Bay is not yet clear to experts.

“Perhaps the sea lions are simply defending their territory in this way, or we are talking about a wounded or sick animal,” water park representative Lynn Cullivan suggested in an interview CBS News.

In May of this year in Richmond in western Canada a sea lion dragged off the girl sitting on the dock grabbed her dress by the water. The child was not injured.
