The well-being of 1% of the richest people in the world, which is about 73 million people, was on par with the welfare of the rest of humanity taken together, reports the international association of organizations for the fight against poverty Oxfam.

The wealth of the world's richest people since 2010 has increased by 0,5 trillions of dollars and reached 1,76 trillions of dollars. During this period, the poorest half of humanity was impoverished by about a trillion, that is, they lost 41% of their fortunes, the report said, timed to coincide with the opening of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The state of 62 of the richest people in the world together equals the size of the property of 3,6 billions of the poorest people, according to Oxfam. At the same time, the gap between the poor and the rich is constantly increasing.

One of the reasons for inequality is the proliferation of offshore zones, thanks to which the super-rich avoid taxes. Between 2000 and 2014, the number of offshore investments quadrupled. Nine out of the ten largest global concerns are represented in at least one of the tax havens.

As a result, African countries are losing so much money that they would be enough to fully solve the problem of child hunger in this continent, according to a report led by Deutsche Welle.

To solve the problem of the gap between the super-rich and the poor, it is necessary to reform the economic and financial system, closing offshore companies and forcing global companies to pay taxes there, they get their profits, they believe in Oxfam.

The World Economic Forum in Davos will be held on January 20-23.
