Active up to 3 months: scientists have developed a unique disinfectant

Hong Kong has developed a unique disinfectant solution — MAP-1. This is stated in the video "Voices of America".

After spraying, the product forms a film on the surface, consisting of millions of nanocapsules. It is effective against viruses and bacteria for 90 days, even after drying.

When someone touches a MAP-1 treated surface, heat-sensitive polymers act as catalysts and release a disinfectant.

Clinical trials of a new type of disinfectant, known as MAR-1, are planned to be completed in early May, after which the Hong Kong authorities will begin to apply it everywhere, writes 1prof.by.

Hong Kong refused to disclose the composition, principle of operation and other important details about MAP-1. At the same time, an innovative product should not be considered the “exterminator” of COVID-19 - this disinfectant belongs to a new generation of products that took more than a decade to develop, which means that its commercial value is enormous. The university only noted that it is a coating with active properties, posing a threat to all types of viruses within three months after its application.

The developers of MAP-1 clarify that this tool is still protective and preventive, and is not an “offensive weapon”. In fact, they need to process the premises in advance, and then the viruses that get there will have very little chance of surviving and infecting someone. Curiously, MAP-1 has already been used to process the housing of the poor in Hong Kong as part of the coronavirus control program.

The main disadvantage of the novelty is the high price. This means that the tool can not afford both ordinary citizens and many organizations. For this reason, the Hong Kong authorities will allocate it in small portions for processing medical facilities, schools and those enterprises that resume their work after the epidemic. They do not intend to share with other countries and even with mainland China.
