Activists frustrated Russian T-34 film in San Francisco

The film distributors for T-34 reported the cancellation of the screening of the film in San Francisco due to the “unhealthy reaction of certain radicals”. They assured that the film is popular. But specific fees are not provided.

In San Francisco, the T-34 military screenshots of director Alexei Sidorov were canceled in some cinemas. About this TASS said the director of the company "Kinosfera", which is responsible for rolling the film in North America, writes Tjournal.

“The screening, which was supposed to take place on February 21 at a San Francisco cinema, was disrupted due to the unhealthy reaction of some radicals who saw propaganda in the film. At the same time, the activists themselves claim that they did not see the film, but only watched the trailer. So I don’t really understand what they saw as the problem. I assume that the radicals are protesting only because the film is from Russia. Perhaps they didn’t hear about the previous three years that we were organizing the distribution of Russian films, but now they have found out about it and will continue to actively interfere with us,” Alexander Belyakov, director of the Kinosphere company

The distributor claims that the film was also “ripped off” in one of the movie theaters in the suburbs of Boston. According to the executive director, the film is being prepared for the premiere in ten more Boston cinemas.

The representative of the distributor, Alexey Pervushin, is convinced that this is an “ordinary film about the war,” and the situation reminds him of “telephone terrorism”. In his view, the situation is paradoxical, and he thinks that people themselves are able to make a choice what to watch.

Also activists of the Arts Against Aggression сообщили, that they contacted the owner of a cinema in Boston with a proposal to cancel the screening. They were surprised at the “unusual choice of cinema” for showing “T-34”, because this cinema usually shows festival films, and this is not an independent film and not an author’s view of history, but “the glamorization of war and state militaristic propaganda in the style of “We can repeat it” !

According to the director of “Kinosfera”, at first activists tried to disrupt the show in Boston (Mass.), And they managed to “intimidate a small, independent cinema in Boston, whose owner was afraid for his business.” In response, representatives of the "Kinosphere" turned to another partner - the second largest cinema network in the world, which "they are not able to intimidate." According to Belyakov, the network of cinemas provided a hall for display in Boston on the same day.

T-34 rental in North America began on February 17 and ends on February 24. It is assumed that it will be shown in 24 cinemas 20 cities in the US and Canada. According to the director of the "Kinosphere", the film will "go with success, even though someone is trying to undermine the shows" and he wishes that the residents of San Francisco will not be able to watch the film.

Belyakov claims that the screenings of the T-34 film in Russian with English subtitles have already been a great success in Toronto, Atlanta (Georgia) and in Los Angeles (California).

According to analyst BoxOfficeMojo, a subsidiary of IMDb, the film "T-34" was not included in the rating of 63 films at box office in the US for February 17 and 18. The latest in the rating film "Reproduction", which premiered on October 26, collected only 1100 US dollars.
