Activists of Buryatia, Mordovia and Tatarstan ask Biden to help them secede from Russia

The League of Free Nations, which united representatives of the “peoples enslaved by Moscow,” turned to US President Joe Biden for help. Activists from Buryatia, Mordovia and Tatarstan asked the American president to support their peoples in realizing the right to self-determination, reports SibReal.

The League of Free Nations is a union of Bashkir, Buryat, Ingrian, Cossack, Kalmyk, Tatar and Erzya national movements that openly declare the goal of creating new national states and secession from Russia.

The activists timed the open letter to coincide with the annual Captive Nations Week, which has been held in the United States since 1959. The representative of Buryatia Rajana Dugar-DePonte, the Tatar Irshat Khabi and the representative of the Finno-Ugric people Erzya Vitaly Romashkin staged a rally in Washington with the flags of their peoples.

“As a Buryat, it pains me to realize that the Kremlin is using the Buryat guys to achieve its criminal goals - to seize new territories and expand the borders of the empire. War is all that Moscow can offer to the children from the Buryat villages. Die like cannon fodder in the next Russian war of aggression. I do not want such a future for Buryatia and my people,” said Rajana Dugar-DePonte.

She believes that the peoples of Russia have become in fact hostages of the Moscow regime, who have no choice but war or prison.

“We do not see the future of our peoples as part of Russia and do not want to be responsible for the Kremlin’s war crimes,” Romashkin added.

On July 20, the Free Nations League will hold a press conference with representatives of the national movements that make up the League. Buryats, Tatars, Bashkirs, Ingrians, Cossacks, Kalmyks and Erzyans will take part in it. Activists also plan to hold rallies in American cities to assert their right to self-determination.

“Today we are in the same position as Ukraine, Estonia, Lithuania or Latvia 40 years ago. We will strive for decolonization,” said Irshat Habi.

In Russia, there is a criminal article for public calls for the implementation of actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the state. It provides for up to five years in prison. And another article for violating the territorial integrity of Russia, which provides for up to ten years in prison.
