Alec Baldwin will be re-charged with the murder of Ukrainian Galina Hutchins
New Mexico prosecutors intend to charge actor Alec Baldwin with manslaughter in connection with a shooting on the set of the movie "Rust" in 2021, reports NBC.
Baldwin's case will go before a grand jury in mid-November. A plea deal was recently discussed, according to two people familiar with the matter.
One of the sources said that after further investigation, prosecutors no longer believe the gun was altered and have found new evidence they believe links Baldwin to recklessness regarding safety standards on the set.

“Unfortunately, a terrible tragedy has turned into this misguided prosecution,” Baldwin’s attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, said in a statement. “We will answer any accusations in court.”
If found guilty, it could result in a prison sentence of up to 18 months.
“We believe that based on our lengthy and detailed investigation, it is appropriate for a grand jury in New Mexico to make a decision on whether to proceed with the case,” said Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey.
This latest news comes 5 months after special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis dismissed the same charge against Baldwin, citing "new facts" in the case. They then released a statement reserving the right to re-charge Baldwin, saying: "This decision does not absolve Mr. Baldwin of criminal responsibility and charges may be re-filed."
What happened on the set
The case centers on a tragedy that occurred on the set of the film Rust in October 2021, when Baldwin fired live ammunition from a handgun. As a result, the film's cameraman Galina Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza was injured.
Baldwin maintained that he did not pull the trigger.
“I feel like somebody is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who it is, but I know it’s not me,” Baldwin said in a December 2021 interview with George Stephanopoulos.
When manslaughter charges against him were dropped earlier this year, prosecutors said the gun may have been altered before the shooting and malfunctioned. A weapons analysis report commissioned by special prosecutors and released in August found that the gun had not been modified.

The film's gunsmith, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, was also charged with manslaughter in January. In August, it was announced that Reed's new trial date had been moved to February 21, 2024.
Reed's attorney, Jason Bowles, previously said Reed would plead not guilty. He declined to comment.
At the time of the initial charges, Baldwin's lawyer, Luke Nicas, called it a "terrible miscarriage of justice."
In June, Hutchins' husband settled a wrongful death lawsuit between Baldwin and the producers of "Rust." Production on Rust resumed this spring, with Hutchins serving as executive producer on the project.
