Airbnb sues native San Francisco
San Francisco authorities want people who rent out their homes through third parties and airbnb to follow certain rules, and also that the rental service only advertises those who follow this law or pay a fine.
This means that Airbnb must adhere to advertisements for San Francisco hosts who have registered in the city and do not exceed the number of nights allowed for rent. In the event of noncompliance, a company can be fined up to $ 1000 per day for each violation.
Now Airbnb is suing the city where it started its activities, claiming that the company is not responsible for ensuring that landlords follow the rules of the city.
Legal experts say Airbnb has a good chance of winning the case. However, the government also has a legitimate interest in regulating health and safety, which includes housing in the city - some of the most expensive in the country.
Airbnb is facing challenges in other cities, including New York, where lawmakers last month approved a bill that makes short-term rentals of an entire house less than 30 days illegal.
Previously ForumDaily reported on the arrangements of the Airbnb and the authorities charge tax on those who rent housing through the rental service.
