KGB agents of Belarus kill an employee of an American company in Minsk

In Belarus, KGB (State Security Committee) officers shot and killed a 31-year-old man and arrested his wife. The victim may have been a US citizen. The edition told in more detail "Voice of America".

The security forces came to his apartment in Minsk to conduct a search, and according to their information, he resisted and therefore had to shoot.

The American software company EPAM Systems has confirmed that the victim was an employee of the company.

The Belarusian authorities did not confirm his identity and media reports that the person who was shot could be a US citizen.

The IT industry has been one of the driving forces behind protests in Belarus since last year's controversial elections.

The Belarusian founder of EPAM Systems was one of the signers of an open letter calling for the release of political prisoners and new elections.

“Although no official source has named the person in question, we can confirm that the person reported in the media was an EPAM employee,” the company said in a statement.

Some media outlets and an adviser to Svetlana Tikhanovskaya reported that the name of the victim was Andrei Zeltser. Julie Fisher, the US special envoy for Belarus, said that the States are looking for additional information to establish whether the shot was a US citizen.
