The airport first decided on a similar experiment. Think it will be easy? It is possible, but it is worth considering that the terminal has 12 new gates that have never been used - and you can be part of the planned obstacles along the way.

“We are going to write scripts to test the processes taking place on a specific day. Out of 150-300 people, some will be in wheelchairs, while others will rush to the gates. I’ll also be elderly passengers, ”says Robert L. Gilbert, strategic adviser to LA World airport.

The purpose of this test is to make sure that emergency personnel, airline and concessionaire employees, and equipment workers know how to manage and navigate the $ 1,6 billion terminal through Tom Bradley’s international terminal through a 1000-foot tunnel . This means that you need to know what to do if the landing bridge does not work properly, or a stopped plane blocks the gate for incoming flights, or the passenger falls and breaks his leg in the tunnel, or someone's child is lost.

Troubleshooting can be simple — make sure the signs are clear enough to take passengers to their gate.

“We are simulating it is rush hour, or an overloaded day and even a month,” says Gilbert.

Anyone who agrees will get a chance to be the first to enter the new terminal, for example, to become the first car driver to drive on the 405 motorway, or the first Expo Line passenger. You need to fill out a MSC Trials volunteer form that asks for a lot of information, including your driver’s license and US passport numbers.

Then Gilbert and his team check the candidates for safety and look for the right demographic composition — elderly, disabled, families, etc., “to make sure that we repeat our standard passenger flow.” Tests will be conducted six weeks before the terminal opens.

People who are selected for the test will receive scripts by email the day before they appear. On the day of their appointment, fake passengers will meet at the gathering place, put on a distinctive uniform (come up with something unflattering orange so that they can be easily identified), and then mix with other passengers to play their part.

Volunteers can be in this place for almost half a day. Drinks and food will provide them.
