Trump administration wants to complicate getting green cards
The US authorities intend to complicate the receipt of green cards for low-income migrants, writes CNN.
Lawmakers are proposing changes that will not allow people entering the country to receive permission to reside in the United States if they want to receive government assistance and other benefits, or if the authorities consider that they will expect further assistance.
Migrants can also be denied legal status changes if they qualify for social benefits in the future, such as state housing and food stamps based on income.
The issue of allowances for children remains controversial. Opponents of the initiative claim that such a move will in fact deprive migrant children of medical care and food.
If this rule is adopted, then in the future it may influence the increase in the number of migrants who will be denied green cards or will force them to refuse benefits.
The head of the Department of Homeland Security Kirsten Nielsen noted that the adoption of the bill is necessary so that those who enter the country do not become a burden on the shoulders of American taxpayers.
Critics of the initiative claim that it will have negative consequences in the future. According to critics, this initiative will complicate the bureaucratic process of obtaining visas and will infringe upon hard-working migrants. They say that the bill once again shows that the Trump administration continues to focus on money and argue that only rich people can afford to build a future in the United States.
According to RBCpreviously, the US administration has promised to significantly reduce the number of migrants.
According to experts, about a third of the US budget goes to social programs. Basically money is received not by people with low income, but by disabled and elderly citizens. Critics say that depriving migrants of assistance will do nothing for the budget, but will only disappoint people. In particular, Washington Governor Jay Insley spoke about this in April. However, the presidential administration considered that the costs are still too high.
