Trump administration has issued work permits to thousands of illegal immigrants

According to official data, tens of thousands of illegal immigrants received permits to work in the United States from the administration of President Donald Trump under the deferred action program (DACA), introduced by Barack Obama, which Trump promised to close on his first day at the post.

As a presidential candidate, Trump called this program "an unconstitutional amnesty", however, becoming president, did not cancel it, writes The Washington Post.

According to the Citizenship and Immigration Services, during the first three months of 2017, more than 17 000 new candidates were approved for participation in this program.

In addition, 107 000 immigrants previously enrolled in the DACA have extended their work permits issued for the 2 year for this period.

These numbers clearly show that the deferred action program for immigrants smuggled into the country during childhood continues to operate under Trump.

In April, the president confirmed his intention to leave the program, saying in an interview Associated Pressthat DACA participants do not have to fear deportation. That delighted immigrants but angered some Trump supporters, who accused the president of failing to deliver on campaign promises—after all, repealing the program is entirely within his jurisdiction, since it was established by an Obama executive order in 2012, which Trump can now rescind with the same order.
