Trump administration decided to get rid of refugees
The Trump administration is thinking about actually stopping the reception of refugees next year. Three people familiar with the plan talk about reducing quotas to zero, writes Politico.
During a key meeting of security officials on the reception of refugees last week, a representative of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), who is closely associated with White House Immigration Advisor Stephen Miller, suggested setting zero quotas. Officials of the Department of Homeland Security later thought over the level from 3 000 to 10 000, according to one of the sources.
The proposal to close the refugee reception program is alarming for officials in the Department of Defense. The fact is, they don’t want Iraqis, who risk their lives to help the American forces in this country, fall under the rejection.

If the administration stops accepting refugees, so Trump will fulfill his election promises of 2016 of the year and create a strong springboard for the re-election campaign.
At the same time, according to proponents tracking the problem, this will affect thousands of people who are already far advanced in the process.
“In the long term, this will mean that the capacity and ability of the United States to resettle refugees will be completely destroyed,” said Jen Smers, director of Church World Service.
The State Department refused to discuss a possible limit. The departments of internal security, justice, defense and the National Security Council, which were attended by representatives, did not respond to requests for comment.

Supporters of the refugee program claim that it offers the United States diplomatic and military levers of international influence that go beyond humanitarian purposes.
But even though Trump officials drastically reduced the number of refugee admissions, the administration also sought to significantly reduce access to asylum. Wide regulations published this week banned to asylum seekers passing through another country on their way to the United States. The measure - already the subject of two lawsuits - could block most asylum claims.
According to a recent State Department report reviewed by POLITICO, it is currently permitted to drive almost 9 000 refugees into the US. In addition, more 29 000 refugees have been interviewed by USCIS, which is an important step in this process.
