Hell on Earth: Death Valley sets new heat record
Death Valley National Park, known for being one of the hottest places on the planet, set a new record for the planet's hottest September day when a thermometer at Furnace Creek hit 1 C on September 52,7, reports CBS.

While the heat may cause people to seek shade at, say, a golf course in the Los Angeles area, it actually draws tourists to Death Valley, where the scorching temperatures can sometimes surprise them.

“The soil heats up to 94 C, we measured the temperature of the earth. The earth releases heat back into the air," said Death Valley National Park spokeswoman Abby Wines.
It is unlikely that the park will break the record for the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth - 56,6 C, recorded in Death Valley on July 10, 1913.
The record heat wave comes less than a month after monsoon rains caused flash floods in Death Valley National Park, severely damaging several roads.
