'Absolute madness': passengers had a fight on board the plane over a mask

A scuffle broke out on an Allegiant Air flight to Provo, Utah after a passenger refused to wear a mask as required by the airline. NBC News.

Riley Lansford captured an argument between two men while waiting for a flight at Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport. Lansford sat next to the passengers, but when one of them struck the first blow, she said she immediately stepped aside and began to record the incident.

“It was absolutely crazy to me because it all happened because of a mask,” Lansford said. - It should not be".

The scuffle began when a passenger, who was wearing a face shield and sitting behind Lansford, had an argument with the flight attendant.

An Allegiant Air spokesman did not respond to questions about the incident, but told NBC News that the airline requires all passengers to wear face masks at all times, including at the ticket office, at the boarding gate and during flight.

“Face shields may be worn in addition to a mask, but not as an alternative,” the company policy states.

The video shows another man wearing a mask that does not cover his nose. A man strikes a passenger who refused to wear a mask, while the crew members are trying to restrain him.

The fight was interrupted after 30 seconds. The unmasked passenger was taken out of the plane by the flight attendants, and the other man was allowed to stay.

In early March, before airports required the wearing of masks, one passenger infected 15 people on a flight from London to Hanoi, Vietnam, according to a study published in Emerging Infectious Diseases.

In its travel guide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends wearing a mask that covers your nose and mouth and staying at least six feet (1,8 m) away from other people.

“If you buy a plane ticket, you have to follow the rules, or drive,” Lansford said.
