Abortion, Immigration, and Slavery: Kanye West Holds Its First Election Rally

American rapper Kanye West, who previously registered as a candidate for US President, began his election campaign - he held his first meeting in Charleston (South Carolina) with potential voters. Writes about this with the BBC.

The 43-year-old musician was wearing a bulletproof vest with the word Security written on it, and had the numbers “2020” shaved into the back of his head.

During his speech, West spoke on several topics, including abortion, immigration, slavery, religion and a number of other issues.

Gun control, activists and LGBT rights

On gun control, West said, "Shooting a gun is fun," and also described how he could "shoot an AR-15 all day long" when he was at his ranch in Wyoming, he wrote. Mothership.

“Guns don't kill people. People are killing people,” West added.

Tubman was an African American woman who escaped slavery and later helped enslaved black men and women escape north on the Underground Railroad.

However, Tubman did not seem to make an impression on West, who said she "never freed slaves."

“She just made them work for other white people,” he said.

West was also interrupted when he tried to answer a question about homosexuality. As a result, the rapper kicked out the rally participant.

“Jesus loves everyone. It doesn’t discriminate against anyone,” he finally said.

"I almost killed my daughter"

Perhaps the most emotional moment in West's speech came when he brought up the topic of abortion.

Speaking about abortion, the musician burst into tears when he told how his parents almost had an abortion: “My mother saved me, my dad wanted her to have an abortion. Mom saved my life. There wouldn't be Kanye West because my dad was too busy."

A similar situation happened with the rapper's daughter.

“I almost killed my daughter,” he shouted.

The rapper went on to talk about how he and his girlfriend (now wife) Kim Kardashian discussed the issue of abortion.

“She had pills in her hand,” West said.

The turning point came when the rapper was "visited" by God.

“If you don’t give a damn about my opinion, I’ll give a damn about yours,” he allegedly told West.

Financial assistance to single mothers

Religion was a common theme throughout West's rally and often served as an excuse for adopting traditionally conservative positions on various issues.

“The Bible says, ‘You shall not kill,’” he said, clarifying his position on abortion.

After telling a young woman in the audience who had an abortion that he understood her situation, West stated, "Jesus loves all people ... and God wants us to do."

While he did not propose to ban abortion, West said that financial incentives to help single mothers could discourage abortion.

One of West's proposals was to give single mothers $ 50 a year for childcare.

He later enlarged the offer for financial assistance, saying, "Everyone with a child will receive a million dollars or something."

And the pre-election meeting, which was somewhat chaotic, did not clarify this issue.

The rapper first announced his presidential ambitions back in 2015 - then he associated himself with the US Democratic Party.

Since then, his political sympathies have changed - he has repeatedly met with Republican President Donald Trump, spoke in his support and called Trump his brother.

In early July, he again announced that he intends to take part in the presidential elections.
