The climber's mother, Janine Girard-Murman, wrote: "My heart is broken into a thousand pieces. I don't know how to get through this. I love him very much and I want to wake up from this terrible nightmare."

Photographer Tom Evans documented Miller's ascent over several days and was at the cliff when he fell.
He said Balin had already completed the climb and was hoisting his gear up the rope, but the gear bag became stuck. According to Tom, the climber began descending to free the bag.
"His rope was a few feet short of where the bag was, but he didn't seem to notice. On the way down, Balin slipped off the end of the rope," wrote Evans on Facebook.
Balin Miller was born in Anchorage and grew up rock climbing with his father and brother.
The young man was an experienced climber. Miller gained international fame after completing the first solo ascent of the Slovak Direct route on Mount McKinley. He wrote on Instagram that the climb took 56 hours.
Renowned Alaskan climber Mark Westman compared Balin to Alex Honnold, the first person to complete an entire route on El Capitan without ropes.
According to Climbing magazine, Miller spent several weeks solo climbing in Patagonia and the Canadian Rockies. In January, he completed one of the most difficult ice routes, Reality Bath (a route in the Canadian Rockies that has become iconic among climbers). Note.) Since conquering the route 37 years ago, Balin Miller became the second person to climb Reality Bath solo.
Among his followers, he was known as "the guy with the orange tent."
El Capitan is a Yosemite landmark. It is a huge, sheer granite cliff rising 915 meters. It attracts climbers from all over the world who specialize in high-altitude routes.
