A passenger attacked a Ukrainian Uber driver with a knife in South Carolina, leaving him 11 times wounded.

Serhiy Savchenko, a Ukrainian refugee who moved to the United States with his family four years ago, was attacked. He works as an Uber and Lyft driver in Greenville, South Carolina, writes Fox Carolina.

Late in the evening of April 22, 2026, Sergey accepted a call. He pulled up to a residential complex on East North Street, politely greeted his passenger, and drove off. A few minutes later, the woman in the back seat suddenly attacked him with a knife.

She stabbed Sergei 11 times in the head, face, arms, side, and back. Despite severe injuries and heavy bleeding, he managed to maintain control of the car, avoided an accident, and continued driving. His limited English made it difficult for him to call for help.

Fighting for his life, Sergei spent two days in intensive care. Fortunately, he survived. He was discharged from the hospital on April 27 and is now recovering at home under the care of his wife, Victoria.

His daughter, Anastasia Savchenko, said: "My dad is one of the strongest people I know. He's a very hardworking and loving father of three. We fled war and moved to the United States from Ukraine, seeking safety and a new life. Despite all the difficulties associated with moving to a foreign country, my dad always put his family first and worked tirelessly to provide for us."

"Our lives were recently turned upside down. While working as a driver, my dad was the victim of a brutal attack. It's a true miracle he survived. He's now been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home, but the road to recovery will be long and difficult. He has serious physical injuries and deep emotional scars. He won't be able to return to work anytime soon. The car he drove was stolen and heavily damaged. My dad always worked hard and never asked for anything. And now he needs our help."

The passenger was arrested. According to police, she suffered a mental breakdown at the time of the attack. The court denied her bail.

Lyft permanently suspended the attacker's account and said it was providing support to the injured driver and his family.
