'America is *****': Russia wants to unite the world against the 'terrible West'

After Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many countries severed any relationship with the aggressor country. And although Russian President Vladimir Putin still claims that Russia is supported by everyone except the "terrible collective West", in reality this is not at all the case. What kind of West is this and what methods Russia decided to fight against it, the publication found out Meduza.

An example of “huge support from the whole world” can be called how, in early October, only five countries opposed a UN resolution condemning the annexation of Ukrainian territories. In addition to Russia itself, they include Belarus, Syria, Nicaragua and North Korea (powerful allies, direct leaders on the world stage, right?).

Against the backdrop of all that is happening, Russia decided to update its own concept of "soft power". Once upon a time, it was within the framework of this concept of influencing other countries that the Russia Today channel appeared, which eventually became the main propagandist not only in the Russian Federation, but also abroad.

However, if earlier Russia simply supported opposition movements in Western countries, now the Russian Federation will be positioned as the world's "leader of the oppressed countries."

This information was shared with the publication by two sources close to the Kremlin.

The bet will be made on some countries of Southern Europe (for example, Greece and Portugal), South America, Africa and Asia.

Russia has worked with individual countries in these regions before.

Now the Kremlin hopes that there will be more partners.

“Once “soft power” was aimed mainly at the “old” Europe - they tried to show that Russia is the same democratic state. It's embarrassing, but they tried. Now the vector is different - anti-Westernism, harmful Anglo-Saxons, colonial oppression and so on, ”said one of the sources.

Therefore, other targets have been chosen - former colonies, post-Soviet countries and poor countries in Europe, which may feel offended.

Vladimir Putin regularly talks about the fight against Western colonialism.

According to sources, the development of a new image of Russia began in the spring of 2022. As a result, among the proposed options, Putin approved precisely “anti-colonial” - with an emphasis on countries that do not want to have “nothing in common” with the West and plan to follow a “special path”.

For example, according to sources, in South America, Russia will say that the West has oppressed their countries for centuries, there is no real freedom in the West, everything is scheduled in advance. But Russia offers a fair world order with many centers of power, which it is ready to moderate. No need to feel like outcasts and try to conform to someone else's rules - there are no uniform rules.

For southern Europe, the rhetoric will be slightly different. First, the Kremlin will emphasize that these countries are in the "most distressed situation" in the EU. Then the Russian authorities plan to convince the inhabitants of these countries that a "crisis of traditional values" is raging in Europe - and it will only get worse.

On the whole, the Kremlin intends to promote the idea of ​​the "decline of the West" and the redistribution of forces in world politics. “To put it simply, America is *****,” one of the sources elaborated.

As conceived by the Kremlin, Rossotrudnichestvo will promote Russia as the leader of the "anti-colonial movement" through its branches in different countries - the so-called Russian Houses. In the fall of 2022, such “houses” began to be actively opened in African countries.

The ex-deputy and son of the former Russian prime minister, Yevgeny Primakov Jr., is in charge of all this.

The Public Council of Rossotrudnichestvo is headed by Igor Chaika, a person involved in anti-corruption investigations and the son of the former Prosecutor General, and now the presidential plenipotentiary in the North Caucasus Federal District.

Sources claim that Russia has allocated several tens of millions of dollars to promote its beliefs in South America alone. Organizations will receive this money both from the budget and from Russian businessmen.

The Kremlin's think tank, the Expert Institute for Social Research (EISI), will oversee the ideological support of "soft power".

Now the Kremlin is counting on the fact that the constant setbacks in the war with Ukraine will not prevent Russia from promoting the “anti-colonial movement”. Moreover, the Russian Federation can even turn it to its advantage.

“Russia can say: look how the West has attacked a country that dared to contradict it with all its might. But we survived and continue to insist on our own, ”explained one of the sources close to the Kremlin.

The main goal of the renewed “soft power” in the Kremlin is described in terms very similar to the concept of Soviet foreign policy: “The other pole must be shown that we have allies, we are not alone and also have an impact on the world agenda.”
