In South Carolina, an 2-year-old boy shot himself playing with his grandmother's gun.

Two-year-old Kayden John Staber from South Carolina accidentally shot himself in the head, finding a gun in her grandmother's purse. Save the life of a child failed.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said the tragedy occurred on Thursday, 20 June, when his grandmother and aunt looked after Staber, writes The Daily Mail.

The police tried to help the child before the arrival of the doctors, but the boy died on the way to the hospital.

According to police, the call was received at 13: 55 on Thursday. Kent Dill, from the coroner's office in Greenville County, said the child had found a pistol in his grandmother's bag, took it out and accidentally shot himself in the head.

“He apparently got into grandma's bag, which was on the bed, and somehow pulled out a gun and was holding it when it was fired,” Dill said.

A few minutes later, in the ambulance on the way to the pediatric emergency department, the child was pronounced dead.

“Preliminary findings indicate the cause of death to be an accidental gunshot wound to the head,” the coroner’s report states.

It is not yet clear whether the charges have been brought and whether they plan to bring them against the relatives of the child. The investigation is ongoing.

A study published last year in the Medical Journal of New England found that the weapon is the second leading cause of death for children in the United States between the ages of 1 and 19.

Firearm injuries caused 3 143 deaths, or slightly more than 15% infant mortality.

The researchers found that in every third home in the United States, where there are children up to 18 years, there is a weapon. Nearly half of these weapons are in the public domain and loaded.
