Bill Gates complained about too small taxes and called his wealth undeserved
Microsoft founder Bill Gates, whose fortune is estimated at 96,7 billion dollars, which allows him to occupy second place in the list of the richest people in the world according to Forbes magazine, once again expressed dissatisfaction with too little amount of taxes that he has to pay.
The businessman said that he could pay more, despite the fact that the amount of taxes already paid by him is about 10 billion dollars, writes Newsru.
Gates called himself a "more than law-abiding" taxpayer, but expressed the opinion that tax rates in the United States should be more progressive. The billionaire also said that he does not deserve his huge fortune, like other tycoons. According to him, he managed to get rich thanks to time, luck and the people he worked with.
Gates also spoke in favor of raising the inheritance tax: in the US, parents can leave their children with more than 11,5 million dollars, and they will not be taxed. According to the founder of Microsoft, neither his heirs nor society will benefit if he leaves all his savings only to his children.
At the same time, he noted that they would still receive a certain amount, but did not specify which one. Gates said that part of his money, minus personal expenses, inheritance and taxes, goes to the charitable foundation he created with his wife Melinda to fight poverty and disease in poor countries.
Gates also supported calls for greater transparency regarding the taxes paid by tech giants, calling himself a "big fan" of such transparency. In particular, he believes laws need to be changed to charge more money to large corporations.
Possessing the second largest fortune in the world, Gates is known for his generosity. In 2017, he made the largest 17 donation to 4,6 in billions of dollars in XNUMX years.
Since 1994, he has donated about 35 billion dollars to charity. Gates' biggest charity investment was a record 16 billion dollars, given in 1999. A year later, a businessman contributed billion dollars to charity 5,1.
A year ago, Gates had already criticized the tax reform of US President Donald Trump, which reduces tax rates for corporations and wealthy citizens. The billionaire said that with such a system, the super-rich will receive even greater profits, and the tax burden will fall on the working and middle class.
