New York City Jeweler Suspected of Fraud Proclaimed Innocent
A Manhattan jeweler claims he lost two diamond rings worth a total of 1 a million dollars, but prosecutors say he stole them.
Update: 7 October 2019 year it became known that with the jeweler Ashot Logian all charges dropped: the case was dismissed, and all legal records, including the arrest, were canceled.
According to earlier allegations, the 44-year-old president of Jado jewelers, Ashot Logian, allegedly received two platinum rings with precious stones: one with a white 10,6 carat diamond, and the second with a yellow diamond in 4,2 carats. The rings were transferred back in May 2017 of the year.
Carol Kleinberg, CEO of Kleinberg Electric Inc, owned dazzling stones, and her husband, Paul Kleinberg, brought them to Logiana for adjustment, the documents said.
A few weeks later, Paul called to clarify at what stage the work was now, but Logian said that he had lost precious stones.
The stones were insured, so Lloyd's Bank, which is located in London, paid Kleinberg 1 051 500 000 dollars.
But just a few months later, on 29 on January 2018, BR Gems presented the “lost” diamond in 9,6 carats to the American Institute of Gemology for certification.
The GIA immediately acknowledged that the 9,6 carat diamond provided was a lost 10,6 carat gem, because it had already certified it for Kleinberg and notified the New York police.
Diamond dealer Boris Goldberg of A&Y International trading told prosecutors that Logian asked him to sell the stone to Belgium New York on his behalf for $ 178. Belgium New York sold BR Gems diamond for $ 500. Then BR sent him for certification to the GIA.
Logian was charged with large-scale theft and possession of stolen property.
According to the results of the investigation, which lasted several months, it was possible to establish the innocence of the jeweler, now all charges have been dropped from him.
