Florida alligator gave a hunt for a teenager
One shot from an AR-15 and a Lake County sheriff's deputy quickly put an end to the atrocities of a large alligator that had kept a teenage girl trapped on an overhanging tree branch for nearly an hour.
The incident occurred on Friday, June 29, near 15: 00. The sheriff’s office received calls for help from Michael Henderson from Titusville and other family members who claimed that the daughter could not descend from a tree branch hanging above the water, as the 10-foot (3 meter) alligator swam down and hissed on it is already more than 30 minutes.
“My daughter is stuck in a tree and there's a gator circling her! the teen's mother said quietly to the 911 operator. - Oh my God! Please hurry! Please hurry!”
Jordana swam in a boat on a stream near the Forest Service in Alexander Springs Park in Ocala National Forest, 55 miles (88,5 km) north of downtown Orlando, when the alligator quickly approached her, authorities said.
According to the report, the girl grabbed a large branch hanging over the water and climbed up the tree. The alligator was waiting in the water at the base of the tree—right below the girl hanging from the branch.
When a policeman, Mitch Blackmon, arrived, he discovered that the girl was tired of hanging on a tree branch and screaming for help, the report says.
“My presence failed to deter the alligator and it began to move toward me, at which time I fired my Bushmaster AR15 and killed the alligator,” Blackmon wrote in his report.
The alligator plunged into the water and no longer emerged, the report says. According to authorities, a marine biologist, Lake County, confirmed that the alligator is dead.
According to the sheriff, Jordana Broderick's 15-year-old was eventually able to safely dismount a tree branch.
Sheriff Fred Jones said July is when alligator mating season comes to an end and residents should be on alert - along shorelines or in bodies of water.
“The end of gator mating season means gators are more aggressive,” Jones said.
