In Texas, a mother was arrested whose healthy son had 13 operations and 323 doctor visits
A woman from Texas was arrested after her 8-year-old son was found to have 13 unnecessary surgeries and tons of useless hospital visits, officials say.
The turning point came last month when 34-year-old Kylin Bowen-Wright brought her son Christopher Bowen to a hospital in Dallas, claiming he had an attack, according to documents.
Health workers said they were “shocked,” but found no signs of an attack, officials said.
They began to suspect that his symptoms could be deliberately false, and they warned Child protective services about it.
“I am very concerned that the mother has moved from exaggerating symptoms to inducing symptoms,” Dr. Suzanne Dakil wrote in the CPS petition, the newspaper reported.
How did this happen?
Researchers believe medical violence began when Christopher was just 11 days old in 2009, reports Star-Telegram.
Medical records show that Christopher visited Dr. 323 times in Dallas and Houston between 2009 and 2016, according to a CPS statement.
During his short life, Christopher was completely converted to oxygen and occasionally used a wheelchair. He had a digestive tube directly placed in the small intestine, resulting in three life-threatening blood infections, the newspaper said.
Bowen-Wright even tried to put him on the lung transplant list, the publication added.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff, she was arrested last week and charged with injuring a child with serious bodily harm.
“Children do not deserve it.”
The child's father, Ryan Crawford, told the newspaper that he was trying to convince the Dallas County District Judges that his son was not sick.
According to officials, after his mother was arrested, Christopher began to eat regularly, he has no seizures, breathes his lungs, and there is no suspicion of cancer.
Crawford's father is currently hoping to get custody of Christopher, who, along with his two twin brothers and sisters, was placed in a foster family.
“This is terrible for my son or any child because obviously my son is not the only one who has endured this kind of torture,” Crawford said.
