At the University of Chicago prevented the attack, the suspect is detained

The man who threatened to shoot at the University of Chicago, was arrested, but he has not yet been charged, according to the FBI on Monday.

After threats to one of the most popular student communities appeared on the Internet, the university management canceled all classes on Monday.

UIC Rector Michael Amiridis said that no threats against students or university staff had previously been recorded. “We are closely monitoring the situation and are concerned about the impact it may have on our students and those at the University of Chicago,” Amiridis said.

Students and all staff at the University of Chicago, who were to return to classes after Thanksgiving, were advised to stay away from the classrooms, and those who were in the dormitory were advised to stay indoors.

University President Robert Zimmer cited "recent tragic events on college campuses across the country" as an example. Educational campuses were the target of several acts of violence in 2015.

Two months ago in dorm South Texas University in Houston was shot dead by one person, another died in a shootout at the University of Arizona. The current US president Barack Obama taught constitutional law there until 2004, and the graduates of the institution are 89 Nobel Prize winners.

The United States is one of the few countries in which the right to bear arms is protected by the constitution, but because of the easy access to firearms, there are six times more murders in America than in Canada, and 15 times as many as in Germany.
