9 hospital staff arrested for abusing patients
Thirty-one staff at a mental hospital for criminals Whiting forensic division hospital in Middleton, Connecticut, suspended from work, and another nine arrested on charges of ill-treatment of patients.
According to the investigation, hospital employees put a diaper on one of the patients' heads, poured water on him during sleep, put salt in coffee, poked a dirty mop on his face, wrote Daily Mail.
According to Connecticut Senator Heather Somers, more arrests are expected in this case. Police said that after this scandal, there were many other complaints of ill-treatment of patients in municipal hospitals.
The names of the affected patients and arrested employees were not disclosed.
Whiting It is part of the Connecticut State Mental Health Care Complex, which is managed by the Department of Mental Health and State Drug Addiction.
The hospital provides 106 places for patients who have committed crimes, as well as 141 places with an increased level of safety and patient protection. Among the patients are people who committed murder or other crimes, but were not found guilty because of insanity, as well as those whose necessity of compulsory treatment was established by the court.
According to the investigation, the arrested 9 officers beat the 62-year-old patient. The patient was hospitalized in 1995 for schizophrenic disorder, autism, and other abnormalities after he committed the murder. A man was injured as a result of a beating by hospital staff.
Another 31 employee was suspended from work because they had participated in bullying or knew about it, but did not report to the relevant authorities, many incidents of bullying were recorded by surveillance cameras. In the future, these employees may face the dismissal and revocation of their medical licenses.
