8 products not worth buying at Costco

Costco is a great store where you can find great prices on many products. However, there are a few product categories that will provide better value for money at your local grocery store or big box stores like Walmart and Target.

This is especially true when it comes to package size. Since Costco, as a rule, sells products in bulk, in some cases there is a risk that you simply will not have time to eat everything you bought before it spoils, writes CNBC.

Here are eight types of products that experts advise against buying at Costco:

• Breakfast cereals and cereals;
• Ground coffee;
• Condiments and sauces;
• Flour;
• Milk;
• Eggs;
• Fresh fruits and vegetables;
• Spice.

If you compare these products, especially from the Kirkland brand, with similar products in other stores simply by price, Costco usually wins. However, the reason why experts advise against buying them at Costco comes down to size.

The packings of these goods in the wholesale giant are too large to be a good deal for an ordinary person or family.

Of course, some people with large families, additional freezers or large storage rooms may think that this is a good offer. However, in most cases, customers end up throwing away most of these products or face problems finding a place to store them.

A normal family is simply not able to eat the items listed above in the amount of a Costco package before they spoil. This is especially true for things like soy sauce, spices, and fresh vegetables and fruits. If a person lives alone, then, for example, buying a 1-pound container with fresh spinach at Costco does not make sense, although the price for it in 4,99 dollars is really very profitable. This is because, even when stored properly, fresh spinach is usually stored in the refrigerator for no longer than 5-7 days.

Large packs of products may also be inconvenient for storage. Regular grocery stores usually sell flour in 5-pound bags, but Costco sells it in 25-pound packages, and it can be quite difficult to find a place to store it.

For other products, such as ready-made breakfasts, milk and eggs, the situation is even less favorable. You can easily find the normal packaging of these products at reasonable prices at your local grocery store or at the nearest supermarket during the sale. For example, Walmart often offers a package of 12 eggs at a price of 32 cents per egg. At Costco, one egg costs 31 cents, but you need to buy 24 at once.

Ready-made breakfasts of famous brands are also often sold in ordinary supermarkets. Therefore, practically without losing in price, you get a normal package, for which you do not need to search for a long time for storage.

Costco membership costs 60 dollars per year. More than 94 of millions of people use it, and it cannot be denied that membership really gives access to some lucrative offers. Costco does not usually charge for more than 14%, while ordinary grocery stores sell more than 25%.

However, you should not buy everything at Costco. Sometimes it is useful to go through other stores, comparing prices and the final benefit you can get.
