8,7 million Americans can't find work
In the USA, official statistics consider only those residents of the country who are actively trying to get a job to be unemployed.
According to the US Department of Labor, which publishes data on the level of employment, the number of jobs has increased in the service and health sectors, and decreased in oil production.
Approximately 8,7 million Americans cannot find work, 6,7 million are still not full-time employees. Last year, the average wage in the US increased by 2,3 percent, which is slightly higher than the rate of inflation.
Unemployment data contradict reports that the US GDP contracted in the first quarter of the year.
There are data from other studies. A survey of financial directors of US companies showed that they are not very optimistic about the prospects for the US economy. Another survey, human resources services, showed that there are more American companies planning to expand their staff than companies intending to get rid of their employees.
