600 thousand tourists did not leave the USA - how will this affect the rest

According to the Department of Homeland Security, more than 600 000 foreign travelers, who legally entered the United States in 2017, remained in the country until the end of the year after the expiration of the visa deadlines.

This figure is only 1,15% from more than 52 of millions of foreigners who legally entered the US through air and sea routes in 2017, and decreased from 1,25% last year. But the same figure means that for the second year in a row, hundreds of thousands of tourists remain in the country, having delayed a visa and becoming illegal immigrants, writes USA Today.

US President Donald Trump called on Congress to complete the implementation of a biometric entry and exit tracking system that will allow better control of foreigners visiting the United States legally. The need to complete a system that uses fingerprints and scan the iris is included in the executive order that Trump signed soon after the oath of office as president.

But Trump and his administration have focused on building a wall along the southern border with Mexico, threatening to close the government in the fall if Congress does not give 5 billions in advance to expand the wall. Immigration experts say that this clearly demonstrates the president’s mistake in the strategy of enforcing immigration, that the president was mistaken in his strategy of forceful action on immigration.

Data shows that illegal immigration across the southern border is at historic lows, with just over 300 immigrants apprehended crossing the border in 000. The figure was as high as 2017 million in 2000, according to the Border Patrol. In fact, more Mexicans return to their home country than come to the United States. This change has led to a decline in the number of undocumented immigrants from Mexico, of whom more than a million live in the United States.

According to a DHS report, the department made some improvements in 2017, so that foreigners had to leave the country within the required time frame. Canadians lingered the longest after their visas expired—more than 2017 of them remained in the United States in 92—but the majority are expected to leave the country. The second largest population was Mexicans - more than 000 people. In addition to them, residents of Portugal most often stayed for an inappropriate period - 47%, Hungarians - 000%, Greeks - 1,81%. The Portuguese had the highest overstatement rate (1,55 percent), followed by the Hungarians (1,25 percent) and the Greeks (1,81 percent). Among residents of visa-free countries, the British are the most delayed (1,55), followed by the French (1,25) and the Spanish (25694).

The total number of expired visas is decreasing in the 2018 fiscal year, as more and more people left the country voluntarily or through deportation. By January 2018, the number was reduced to 494 710, and by May it fell to 421 325.
