FDA recalls pasta sold at popular supermarkets after 6 people died from poisoning

According to health authorities, six deaths and 27 cases of illness in 18 US states are linked to a listeriosis outbreak. The source of the infection was prepared pasta dishes sold at major retail chains like Kroger and Trader Joe's. CBS News.

According to the latest information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), released on October 30, the updated data included two more deaths and seven cases of the disease, with 25 hospitalizations recorded.

According to the CDC, cases have been identified in the following states: California, Hawaii, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington.

The source of the contamination is prepared pasta dishes produced by Nate's Fine Foods. The company has already notified consumers of the recall of the contaminated products. In a statement released in September, it announced that it is cooperating with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the CDC in investigating the cause of the outbreak.

According to the FDA, the recall affects the following products:

• Sprouts Farmers Market Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad with best before dates of 10/10/25–10/29/25 (Sprouts Farmers Market recall);
• Giant Eagle Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad with best before dates of 9/30/25–10/7/25 (Giant Eagle review);
• Kroger farfalle and penne pasta salads sold from August 29, 2025, to October 2, 2025 (Kroger recall);
• Scott & Jon's Brand Shrimp Scampi with Linguini Bowls 9,6 oz with "best before" dates of March 12, 13, 17, and 21, 2027 (Demers Food Group recall);
• Trader Joe's Cajun Style Blackened Chicken Breast Fettuccine Alfredo 16 oz plastic containers with "best before" dates of September 20, 24, 27, 28 and October 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 2025 (USDA FSIS Public Health Risk Alert);
• Albertsons' own pasta salads with sell-by dates from September 8, 2025, to October 4, 2025 (Albertsons recall);
• Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs & Marinara Sauce 12 oz. with "best used by" dates of September 22, 24, 25, 29, 30, and October 1, 2025 (USDA FSIS Public Health Alert);
• Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine 12,3 oz with a "best used by" date on or before June 26, 2025 (FreshRealm review);
• Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine 32,8 oz with a "best used by" date on or before June 27, 2025 (FreshRealm review);
• Home Chef Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo 12,5 oz with a "best used by" date on or before June 19, 2025 (FreshRealm review).

The CDC recommends that consumers check their refrigerators and discard any recalled products.

Listeriosis is especially dangerous for pregnant women, people over 65, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include headache, neck stiffness, confusion, loss of balance, seizures, fever, muscle aches, and fatigue.
