5 volcanoes that may become active in the USA
Disappointment, anxiety and unpredictability envelops the Big Island of Hawaii.
During 10 days, almost 2000 people were evacuated from their homes after the eruption of the Kilauea volcano began. At least 36 buildings were destroyed by lava flows, including 26 houses. Poisonous gases destroy trees and grass, untouched by lava.
It is expected that the volcano itself will begin an eruption, however, the release of lava should not be farther than 19 km from the crater. Scientists have discovered 19 cracks since the eruption, 3 May.
The White House announced that the federal government will allocate additional funds to combat the consequences of a natural disaster.
According to the US Geological Survey and the Alaska Volcano Observatory, there are five other active volcanoes in the United States, where eruptions have occurred in recent years.
Mount St. Helens (WA)
Last reported eruption: 2008 year
Scientists say that if a volcanic eruption begins on the mainland of the USA, then it is worth looking for it on Mount St. Helens. This is the most active volcano in the cascade range, notes the USGS. It is known for its deadly eruption, which killed 57 people in May 1980, the last volcanic eruption occurred from 2004 to 2008 year. During this time, enough lava was formed in the crater of the volcano to fill up the 36 800 Olympic pools, the agency said.
Mount Cleveland (Alaska)
The last message of the eruption: 2017 year
According to the USGS, the volcano was in an active state from July 2015. A number of lava emissions occurred due to the volcano, which accounts for half of the uninhabited island of Chugynadak in the spring of 2017. Of the 160 active volcanoes in the USA, this is one of the three with "increased" activity at present, according to the USGS. The other two are: Kilauea and Mauna Loa, both on the Big Island.
Bogoslof Island (Alaska)
Last reported eruption: 2017 year
Also on the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, the Bogosloph erupted in December 2016 of the year and continued until August 30 of the year 2017. Emissions reach heights from 10 to 15 kilometers, breaking several flights.
Volcano Pavel (Alaska)
Last reported eruption: 2016 year
The volcano last erupted on the afternoon of March 27 2016 of the year.
