41-year-old gymnast from Uzbekistan has proved to everyone that in sports age is not the main thing

41-year-old gymnast from Uzbekistan Oksana Chusovitina competed at the seventh Olympic Games in her career on August 7, and at the moment she is the only gymnast who has succeeded.

One of her rivals in Rio was Croat Ana Derek, 1998, who was only two months older than Chusovitina’s son Alisher, writes USA Today.

“During performances, it would be nice if the judges gave a few extra points for age, although the good thing is that we are all on equal terms,” says the gymnast.

Chusovitina can be an inspirer in any kind of sport, because in her 41 she performs at the Olympics in the sport in which 22-year-old Ali Reisman is called “grandmother”.

And this is not just to satisfy her pride: she was a champion at her first Olympiad, but four years ago in Beijing she received silver.

Having gained 14,999 points on 7 in August, she has a chance to climb the Olympic pedestal again.

Chusovitin received her first Olympic experience in 1992, her plans included the continuation of her sports career in her native Uzbekistan.

But her son Alisher was diagnosed with leukemia in 2002, and he was offered treatment in Germany. To thank the country for saving the life of her son Chursovitina decided to play for Germany at the 2008 Olympics.

At the Olympics in London, where the gymnast again played for her native country, she said that these were her last Olympics. Now in Rio, she only smiles when she is reminded of these words.

“I’m a woman,” she explains the change in her plans, and then seriously adds that she thought that her sports career was already coming to an end, but in 2016 she still felt the strength and opportunity to achieve success.
