26 congressmen to boycott Trump's inauguration

The number of Democratic congressmen who are going to boycott the inauguration of the elected US President Donald Trump is growing. 26 people have already announced their decision, reports Air force.

As a reason, many deputies cited Trump’s recent harsh language on Congressman John Lewis.

Lewis has been a prominent member of the civil rights movement for many years, and has become a hero for many Americans. He participated in 1965 performances of the year in Selma and Montgomery for the voting rights of blacks.

In 1987, he was elected to the House of Representatives from Georgia's 5th District. Trump called the district "infested with criminals."

After Lewis called Trump an "illegitimate president," Trump tweeted, "It's all talk, talk, talk - no action or results."

After this statement, many Democratic deputies decided to break the tradition and not to participate in the inauguration of the president, which will be held on Friday.

“When you insult Congressman John Lewis, you insult America,” said Yvette Clark, one of 5 New York County representatives boycotting the inauguration.

In total, 535 deputies sit in two chambers of congress.

Representative Ted Lieu of California said: “For me, the decision not to attend the inauguration is very clear: Am I for Donald Trump or am I for John Lewis? I'm for John Lewis."

The first of the deputies to boycott the inauguration was decided by the representative of Illinois Luis Gutierrez, he announced his decision back in December.

“I won't be able to look my wife, my daughters and my grandchildren in the eye if I'm there after everything he said about women, Latinos, blacks, Muslims, like everything he said in his speeches or wrote in his tweets , normal and erased from our common memory,” Gutierrez explained his decision.

Lewis said he would not be present at the ceremony, in an interview with NBC, calling Trump an illegitimate president, which caused Trump's anger.

Inauguration Donald Trump will be the first missed inauguration of the president for the 30 years that Lewis has been working in Congress. The alleged interference of Russian hackers in the electoral process Lewis called one of the reasons why he considers Trump to be an illegitimate president.

"You can't stay home when everything is going so wrong," he told NBC.

After the altercation of Lewis and Trump, sales of Lewis's memoirs, according to Amazon, soared, and now all copies of the book are sold out.

Donald Trump is in serious trouble with the entertainment part of the ceremony.

None of the significant American musicians wanted to perform during the inauguration. So far Trump enlisted only by consent America's Got Talent winner Jackie Ivanko, 16, and the military marching band and variety show Radio City Rockettes, but some dancers have already publicly announced their refusal to participate in the performance.
