To narrow the list, the publication suggested 25 the best coastal cities based on average real estate price, state income and general availability, using various metrics.

Cities with the highest percentage of residual income took first place in the ranking. Although you will not find such famous places as Malibu on the list, there are many cities by the water where it is quite possible for a middle-income person to live.
