California residents can study at state colleges for 2 years

California will provide novice students with two years of free tuition at state community colleges.

Newsom first proposed this initiative after an oath of office earlier this year. The proposal was approved by state legislators and signed by the governor in the summer.

According to a statement from the Newsom office, the California College Community is the country's largest higher education system. The office said that about 2,1 million students are studying there, making the community "the largest system of higher education providing such support."
