About 200 Delta passengers from New York's JFK Airport to Los Angeles experienced a nightmare due to the 18 hour flight delay for several reasons.

The Delta DL975 flight was supposed to fly from New York on Wednesday, August 21, to 15: 30, but due to mechanical problems and weather conditions it flew out after 18 hours - the next morning. All this time, passengers spent at the gate, waiting for boarding, as the flight was delayed each time for a short time.

Initially, the flight was delayed for about an hour, but after a series of additional delays the situation turned into a many-night nightmare.

According to passengers, things just got worse due to poor communications and the lack of proper customer service and amenities provided by Delta staff.

There were several celebrities among the passengers, including Beyoncé's mother Tina Knowles-Lawson, star of “Strangers” Dacre Montgomery and several participants in the ABC project “Dancing with the Stars”.

Emma Slater, a professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars, tweeted a video of stunned passengers who were told that after 8 hours of waiting they would not be given hotel rooms for the night.

Passengers reportedly boarded the flight on time, but the initial delay was caused by a mechanical malfunction of the cargo door. After the mechanical problem was resolved, bad weather affected further delays. A few hours later, the plane was ready to take off again, but returned to the gate because one of the pilots worked out the maximum number of hours prescribed by the FAA and needed to be replaced.

Passenger Eloise Moran said that initially Delta did not offer vouchers for dinner, but in the end did so after passengers were again disembarked from the plane at about 1 o'clock in the morning.

In a statement to Insider, Delta apologized to customers for the delay.
