Where to rent cheap housing in New York: existing housing lottery
The New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has published a list of housing lotteries where applications for vacant apartments are being received.
The right to participate in a particular lottery is determined by income. To see rental opportunities for low-income applicants, please click here. For middle income rentals, please click. here.
Filling out an application for participation in a specific lottery is the only way to qualify for one of the apartments.
Each application is carefully checked, and all claims regarding income and other necessary documentation are reviewed by the HDC. Tax returns and income are checked by the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
