Trump is ready to consider the status of Crimea as Russian territory
US presidential candidate from the Republican Party, Donald Trump, said that if he wins the election, he is ready to consider official recognition of Crimea as a Russian territory, as well as the possible lifting of US sanctions against Russia.
German journalist Marike Aden, who works in the United States, wrote in Twitterthat asked Trump the appropriate question and received an affirmative answer.
“I asked Trump if he, as president, would like to recognize Crimea as Russian and lift sanctions?” “Yes, we would consider this issue,” Aden quoted Trump as saying.
On Wednesday Trump also openly called Russia to look for the missing part of the working correspondence of Hillary Clinton as US Secretary of State. Such a statement Trump made, answering journalists' questions about the possible involvement of Russian hackers to the publication of the compromising correspondence of representatives of the US Democratic Party.
“Russia, if you can hear me, I hope you can find another 30 letters that are missing,” Trump said, adding that American journalists would fully reward Russian intelligence agencies for this work.
Trump's words about the possibility of recognizing Crimea as the territory of Russia if he was elected president caused outrage from many American political scientists and journalists.
“I didn’t think that Trump could become so pro-Putin, but now he says that he can lift sanctions and recognize the annexation of Crimea. Incredible,” writes Max Booth, Senior Researcher at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).
“Even China is not eager to recognize the annexation of Crimea, but Trump is ready,” complains an expert at the Scowcroft Center for International Security Michael weissCollaborating with publications like CNN and Daily Beast.
"Shock. Trump would consider recognizing Russia's theft of Crimea. This is a betrayal of American and European values and interests,” says a professor at the Kennedy School at Harvard University. Nicholas Burns.
In March of this year, Trump, as Voice of America reported, supported the economic sanctions against Russia imposed in connection with the annexation of the Crimea.
