13 parents plead guilty in bribes for their children entering the best US colleges
13 parents and one trainer plead guilty to a fraud case for admission to prestigious US universities, writes Rtvi.
At the same time it became first known about this story. Some parents gave a bribe for the admission of children under the quota for athletes, and the coaches created fake sports characteristics for them. Even parents paid third-party organizations to prepare applicants for admission, which in fact forged the answers to the exams. The people involved in the case turned out to be 50 people, where 33 of them are parents.
At the same time, many students were not aware of the actions of their parents, who wanted to arrange them at prestigious universities. Fraud schemes were used from 2011 to 2019 year.
In connection with the scandal, a collective lawsuit was filed against eight universities, among them the University of California at Los Angeles, the University of San Diego, the University of Texas and others. The institutions accuse of “negligence and non-observance of security measures”, which should ensure the transparency of the university admission process, and demand damages in the amount of $ 5 million.
26 March Yale University excluded one student who was associated with fraud upon admission to college.
