Tennis players from Russia and Kazakhstan advanced to Wimbledon quarter-finals

Russian tennis players Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Elena Vesnina made their way into the final 1 / 4 Wimbledon 2016 tournament of the year. In addition, the representative of Kazakhstan Yaroslav Shvedova was among the eight best.

On Monday, Pavlyuchenkova, who now occupies the 23 line of the world ranking, beat the American Coco Vandewei and made her way to the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time in her career. Previously, she reached this stage at the US and French Open Championships.

For a place in the semifinals, Pavlyuchenkova will have to fight the first racket of the world, Serena Williams, who beat another Russian woman, Svetlana Kuznetsova. Williams was inferior to Kuznetsova in the first set with an 4: 5 score, but after a half-hour pause due to rain, the younger Williams took 9 games in a row and eventually won 7: 5, 6: 0.

The eldest of the Williams Venus sisters, who will now meet with Yaroslav Shvedova, advanced to the next round. 28-year-old Muscovite, which since 2008, stands for Kazakhstan, was able to beat the famous Czech Lucy Shafarzhova.

For Shvedova, this is also the first time she has reached the quarter finals of Wimbledon - she previously played at this stage of Roland Garros twice.

Another debutant in the quarterfinals, 29-year-old Elena Vesnina, became one of the eight best tennis players at the Grand Slam tournaments for the first time. Vesnina beat Ekaterina Makarova, with whom she plays in doubles, in an all-Russian match.

Now Vesnina will play against Dominika Tsibulkova from Slovakia. In the final pair will play the winner of the Australian Open this season, Angelica Kerber from Germany and Romanian Simone Halep.

In the men's competition after sensational departure world ranking leader Novak Djokovic, all attention is focused on the second tennis player in the world at the moment, Andy Murray, and the record holder for the most victories in Grand Slam tournaments, Roger Federer.

The Briton will play against the Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter finals, and the Swiss will play against the Croatian Marin Cilic. If he wins in London, Federer will also become the sole record holder for the most titles at Wimbledon - he and the American Pete Sampras, who has already retired, now have 1 victories each.

Wimbledon Finals are scheduled for July 9 and 10.
