In New Jersey Medical Center, 11 children have already died from the infection
The New Jersey Department of Health 16 in November reported the death of an 11 baby in a state medical center affected by a severe virus outbreak.
The child was a resident at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Vanaka (Passaic County, New Jersey) and was one of the 34 children suffering from adenovirus during the current outbreak, writes NBC.
Комиссар Департамента здравоохранения штата Шериф Эльнахал обратился в Medical Reserve Corps — группу добровольцев-клиницистов, которые с целью оказания экстренной помощи защищают общественность путем разделения больных и здоровых пациентов.
Previously, the separation of patients could not be carried out due to restrictions on the object. During the investigation, officials determined that the limitation in the ability to separate sick and healthy patients was one of the reasons that the outbreak was so severe.
The separation should be completed before November 21, inclusive, doctors hope this will help contain the spread of the infection.
In addition, violations were noticed in the medical center, to which the commission also drew attention and pointed out to the staff of the medical institution.
Adenoviruses are common viruses that can cause a number of diseases. Viruses cause symptoms like a cold or flu: a sore throat, bronchitis, pneumonia, diarrhea and conjunctivitis. Adenoviruses can cause serious complications in some people, especially those with weakened immune systems, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
Adenoviruses usually spread from an infected person to other people through close contacts; by airborne droplets or by touching the object or the surface with adenoviruses on them.
The state health department said they were informed of the start of the October 9 outbreak. After verification, it turned out that since 2015, 14 violations have been identified at the Care and Rehabilitation Center in Vanaka, including the introduction of infection control.
In October, the institution was instructed not to accept new patients until the end of the outbreak, and it fulfills it. The hospital also needed to hire a certified infection control specialist to counteract the virus.
The center also created a 24-hour hotline for families affected by the outbreak.
