Car theft statistics in the United States remained virtually unchanged in 2017 compared to 2016, when the rate increased by 7% and continued for two more years. There were 773 vehicle thefts nationwide last year—139 vehicles for every 237,4 residents.

However, the city with the highest rate of car theft in the state is not necessarily the city with the poorest community or the highest crime rate.
