The rector of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral from Melitopol (Ukraine), Father Victor (Tseshkovsky), now heads the parish in one of three Orthodox churches in Los Angeles (California).
Parishioners of the Intercession Church - Hollywood actors, directors and athletes. This news on his page on the social network Facebook shared by Vladimir Korotun, the ex-director of the MTV-plus TV channel, who came to the USA to visit his daughter and grandchildren, writes RIA Melitopol.
“Two of the three Orthodox churches in Los Angeles are in Hollywood. Of these, the Intercession Church is the closest to the famous Walk of Fame and the Hollywood sign on the hills. It is in this church that Father Victor serves. He comes from the Kamenko-Dneprovsky district, but for ten years, in 1982-1992, he served as rector of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Melitopol,” said Korotun.
Father Victor has been in the church since childhood. All five sons of his parents became priests, his sister was married to a priest, and his nephews were also priests. All served in the Crimean and Dnepropetrovsk dioceses.
Father Victor has long served abroad. The first was a temple in Sweden, then there was the St. Nicholas Church in San Francisco; Parish in Canada, where a Ukrainian priest was needed; St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York. There were parishes near Milan, in Spain, on the Canary Islands. Over the past 10 years, it was the New Root Hermitage under New York, the temple in Brooklyn, and now - the Pokrov Church in the Western American Diocese - in Hollywood.
“I wouldn’t want people to consider Orthodoxy as something alien to Hollywood, incompatible with it. Orthodox life flows here. Our parish is well-equipped and active. Hollywood parishioners are Russian artists, directors, athletes, creative intelligentsia, ordinary newcomers, Russian-speaking people from various places of the former Soviet Union. On Sundays we serve two Liturgies: an American priest serves in English, followed by a Liturgy in Slavic. At both services, up to 200 people receive communion,” said Father Victor.
February 17, the Rector of the Intercession Church, Archpriest Father Viktor (Tseshkovsky) turned 60 years. He celebrated his anniversary with his flock. There was a dinner in the church dedicated to Shrovetide and a concert.
