Ukraine ranks third in terms of the number of refugees in the United States this year.
As we enter the new fiscal year, the Center for Immigration Studies has released its statistics on the influx of refugees to the United States in 2018. The sad top three are Congo, Myanmar and Ukraine.
In the 2018 fiscal year (from 1 of October 2017 of the year to 30 of September of 2018 of the year), the United States received a total of 22491 of refugee, with a set limit of 45 of thousands, Center for Immigration Studies. These are mainly Christians (68,1%), Muslims make up 15,5%, while animists, Buddhists and Hindus make up 9,3%. The top five countries included: Congo, Myanmar (Burma), Ukraine, Bhutan and Eritrea.
Both the 2018 and 2019 caps (45 and 30) were set by President Trump, the lowest caps since Congress passed the 1980 refugee law. 22491 is also the lowest figure since the country's resettlement program was introduced. In most cases, the “ceiling” is an unattainable number of people. There always remains a discrepancy, the Center argues. Additionally, improving the screening process for asylum applicants seeking resettlement in the United States actually means allowing fewer refugees into the country.
