The United States will launch a campaign to decriminalize LGBT people in dozens of countries

The US administration is launching a global campaign to end the criminalization of sexual orientation in dozens of countries where it is considered illegal to be a member of the LGBT community.

The campaign is led by US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell - the most senior openly gay in the administration of Donald Trump, writes RIA News with reference to the NBC television channel.

“It is concerning that in the 70st century, some XNUMX countries still have laws that criminalize the status or behavior of LGBT people,” said an official involved in organizing the campaign.

The decriminalization strategy is still under discussion, but according to officials, it is likely to include work with international organizations such as the UN, the EU and the OSCE, as well as with countries that already have rights for homosexuals. Other US embassies in Europe are also involved in the campaign.

As the channel, the campaign was conceived in part as a response to reports of the execution of a young man gay in Iran.

In 2016, President Barack Obama lifted ban on transgender service in the army. They were supposed to be able to officially enter the service from July 1 2017. In the summer of that year, Trump returned the ban, but the courts blocked his decision.

In March, 2018-th Trump signed another memorandum, according to which military service is not allowed those who suffer from “gender dysphoria” and need medical help.

According to various estimates, there are thousands of X-NUMX to 1,3-thousand transgender people in the US Army.
