Mother of the kidnapper of a girl from Wisconsin is shocked by history and is afraid to leave the house

Jake Patters' mother is “extremely scared” and “afraid to leave the house” after she learned of her son’s attack on the 15 Claux family in October and the abduction of teenage girl Jamie Closs from her home in Wisconsin.

Deborah Frey and her second husband, Kevin, Patterson's mother and stepfather, are responsible people who get up early every morning to clear snow from their driveway, he said.

“I saw Jake across the street, but I didn’t talk to him. They are good people. But he’s a freak,” a neighbor expressed his opinion.

Neither the mother nor Patterson’s father, they said, noticed anything unusual in the behavior of his son during the 88 days when he held Jamie in captivity, although both saw him several times at that time.

The couple divorced in 2007, when their youngest son Jake was 12 years old. In total, the couple has three children - 21-year-old Jake, 24-year-old Eric and 26-year-old Katie.

Today, Deborah lives with her second husband Kevin in the small town of Haugen (Wisconsin).

Their home looks fresh and neat with a well-kept garden and a backyard workout target. Patterson's stepfather, Kevin, according to another neighbor, is an enthusiastic hunter who often practices shooting. It is not known whether his stepson, who mercilessly shot Denise and James Kloss, ever joined these trainings.

Those who knew Patterson in childhood described him as a “quiet”, “diligent” guy, a member of the Quiz Bowl team at Northwood High School. But his sister's ex-boyfriend, Katie, who met her in 2009 and often stayed with her at the Patterson family home, called Jake as a restless person. According to him, the guy had no friends, he did not go anywhere, but constantly sat at home alone and watched TV.

Patterson's parents received joint custody of the children, but his father was appointed as the child’s main guardian.

During graduation from school in 2015, Patterson announced that he wanted to join the Marine Corps. But his career in the Marines did not work out. Military records show that he was dismissed from service just five weeks after admission.

A Marine spokesman said the brevity of his career indicates that "the nature of his service did not meet the expectations and standards of the Marine Corps."

He also worked at Barron's Jennie O Turkey Factory, where Denise and James Kloss worked for more than two decades, just one day three years ago.

His last job at the Saputo cheese factory lasted only two days.
