Lukashenka gave Putin a new present for the New Year

In honor of the New Year holidays, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko presented four bags of potatoes and Belarusian lard to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

This week, Lukashenko and Putin held two meetings in Moscow - on Tuesday and on Saturday. The main issues discussed were energy prices and future changes in Russian tax legislation.

“I can say that Alexander Grigorievich (Lukashenko) gave Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin) not only potatoes that day. In fact, as far as I know, the Russian President really loves good lard. And Alexander Grigorievich, knowing this, ... on his previous visit he also brought lard, and this kind of ... not something specially made, but simply the most delicious, of course, selected Belarusian lard. And it was also presented. Afterwards there were potatoes,” Eismont said, adding that we were talking about potatoes “from the presidential garden.”

According to Eismont, the potatoes were brought to Putin “by special order,” because earlier, “half-jokingly,” Lukashenko asked Putin what else he would like to receive as a gift from the President of Belarus.

“And the answer sounded exactly like this: “Well, what more can you ask from Belarus? Potatoes and lard." Well, it won't rust behind us. We brought four bags of these potatoes,” the press secretary noted.

She also clarified that there were “four varieties of potatoes.”

“And if you think that these are absolutely the same potatoes, they just differ in the names of the varieties, then you are deeply mistaken, because each of these varieties has a specific cooking method for it. Some are intended for frying, some are for potato pancakes, some are for mashed potatoes, some are for baking and boiling. Everything was written on the bags,” Eismont clarified.

The press secretary of the head of Belarus also reported that Lukashenko presented all the leaders of the CIS countries with exclusive handmade Christmas tree balls for the New Year. According to Eismont, the presidential administration spent a long time thinking about various gift options for heads of state and eventually settled on unique Christmas tree balls. At the same time, Eismont clarified that the initial versions of the Christmas tree decorations seemed “too heavy” to Lukashenko, and he asked to make them lighter and more festive.

Informal meeting of the leaders of the SNG countries took place on December 6 in St. Petersburg.
